Lynemouth jobs “destroyed” by environmental law, claims MEP.

More than five hundred jobs are being lost in Lynemouth because of environmental laws, says Martin Callanan. Alcan Rio Tinto has announced that its aluminium smelter plant in Northumberland is being shut. 515 people work at the facility, but the company says it is no longer sustainable to keep going. The Conservative Euro MP, Martin Callanan, says that environmental laws which charge industry for producing carbon dioxide mean that the jobs are, in effect, being exported to another part of the world where pollution isn’t taxed.
